The Patterson Ravens varsity youth football team will embark on one final road trip Saturday, Nov. 7 — to the Mariposa Fairgrounds, site of the Trans-Valley Youth Football League’s Super Bowl.
Patterson punched its ticket to the big game by stomping the host Winton Cowboys, 49-16, on Oct. 31.
Ravens quarterback Jonathan Perez led the way, going 2-for-4 for 120 yards and two touchdowns. Teammate Malik Smith had three catches for 165 yards and three touchdowns, Michael Campbell added three carries for 124 yards and a TD, and Juan Galvez recovered a Winton fumble and took it in 45 yards for a score.
“The kids played really loose,” coach Keith Parker said. “Defensively, we knew that first down was going to be the most important down for us. We were aggressive and held (Winton) to about 100 yards of total offense.”
Patterson (7-3) next faces the Hughson Huskies (10-0) in the Super Bowl.
“Hughson beat us back in Week 3, but that was an entirely different team that we had,” Parker said. “We know that this is a huge game, and we plan on going full steam ahead.
“I think that when we play together, we are the best team in the league. Right now, we’re tough to beat.”
Junior varsityThe JV Ravens will get a shot at redemption when they face the Big Valley Sabres in the Super Bowl on Saturday.
Patterson dismantled the West Side Niners 49-0 last weekend to advance to the league’s championship game.
Demario Hammonds and Hunter Powers each scored a pair of touchdowns for Patterson. Teammates Michael Lawson and Damian Paulo also added a touchdown apiece.
Patterson (9-1) fell to Big Valley 19-13 earlier this season for its only loss of the year.
“I told the team that second chances are very rare,” Patterson coach Read Weinzheimer said. “The team is excited to get this opportunity. They want to play Big Valley. They want to show what they are all about.”
NoviceMight as well make it an all-Ravens affair this weekend: The novice Ravens eked out a 14-13 victory over West Side on Oct. 31 and will also advance to the league’s Super Bowl.
