The Patterson Ravens varsity youth football team is peaking just in time for the postseason, as evidenced by a 68-24 win over Gustine at Patterson Community Stadium on Sunday, Oct. 18.

The victory sets up a battle for the Western Athletic Conference crown on Saturday, Oct. 24, against the host Winton Cowboys.

“We are still taking it one game at a time,” Patterson coach Keith Parker said. “Still, I’m very pleased with the way we’re playing as the regular season starts to wind down.”

Sunday’s game was an offensive bonanza for the Ravens. Quarterback Jonathan Perez completed 10-of -2 passes for 212 yards and four touchdowns. He also added 50 yards rushing.

Brandon Williams found the end zone three times, scoring on a 50-yard catch, a 50-yard kickoff return and a 45-yard run. Teammate Jacob Gomez added a 3-yard touchdown grab and an interception for a TD.

“When you win by this type of margin, you’re able to get a lot of different players into the game,” Parker said.

Michael Campbell scored on runs of 3 and 2 yards, Alex Salazar caught a 5-yard touchdown pass and Avion Warnsley tacked on 75 yards rushing and a score.

“I couldn’t be prouder,” Parker said.

Junior varsity

Coach Read Weinzheimer’s junior varsity Ravens also made short work of Gustine, handing the Redskins a 54-13 defeat.

“This was a fun game,” Weinzheimer said.

Daniel Cota grabbed two touchdown passes and ran for another score. Teammate Demario Hammond had 54 yards rushing and a TD, and Michael Lawson found pay dirt on a 20-yard sweep.

“All-around, this was another good showing for us,” Weinzheimer said. “We’ve only got one more game and one more week to go until the playoffs get started.

“Everyone on this team is looking forward to it.”
